Bring the past to the present

Last Friday there was a lunch and several past hygienist from the program were there and shared their stories. I was really surprised that only one was still practicing hygiene...and some of them are now doctors! Thats really cool.

Charting with Axium....this will take some time

So I know we all had some training the other day with Axium. I found a site that has some PDF files that explain a lot different things with Axium. I hope it helps.

First it was Monkeys and now its probes....what are they going to think of next :P

So first NASA sent a monkey to space to test out their spaceships and stuff, now they are creating probes...? I know in class we talked about the electronic probe.  Where you place the instrument under the gingivae and it automatically gives you a reading.  In class they also said how this type of technology is very pricey and not always accurate.  I agree, I trust myself more than a machine. : P But back to monkeys in space and NASA, I found this video online that shows a type of probe NASA created.  It is a type of ultrasonic probe and they say it is better and painless compared to manual probing....I still rather do it myself : P But it is an interesting video...take a look :)

Clinic....

So does anyone else feel that there is not enough faculty for us?  Today we were practicing the sickle scaler and universal and graceys and I think I might have only gotten 10 or 15 minutes of instructions...I am not saying that that the instruction that I did receive was bad, but it just was not enough.  Especially when we could go cutting off each others gums : P I know that I would like to have all my gingivae still intact-ed by Christmas break : P

So come on faculty and give us a  little more of your time! And hopefully you will only have to grade us on our Comps once and our gums will still be here at Christmas :) (see we both win)

Comp Number 1...

So....I failed my first competency and that was safe to say because I had you know who grading me.  I think everyone that had her grade them failed....except for one person. lol! Oo, well. I am not too worried about it since we can keep retaking it until we pass.  :) I just hope that the next competency is more organized and we have a better understanding of what makes us pass or fail.  And all the faculty members agree on pass or fail criteria.  I know of some misunderstanding with the fulcrum placement for the mirror.  Whether it should be intra-oral or extra-oral....I remember some faculty saying that you could fulcrum outside of the mouth with the mirror....so then why did some people fail their comps for doing so....
